I would like to believe that its well meaning, preventing children accessing pornography is a good thing, however i firmly believe that this was never the goal of this act.

The act has already been used to force social media sites to sensor content relating to anti immigrant protests, the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and even Spotify! This is not due to direct pressure from the government but due to the firms trying to protect themselves form the insane fines and even possible imprisonment, this is not a bug, its a feature. Why directly censor the internet when with threats of financial ruin and imprisonment you can make companies do it for you.

This needs to change, I am not against regulations that force sites that are primarily used to post adult content requiring some form of verification that the person accessing that content is of age however that check has to be done in a manner where peoples private information is not at risk. Its not a case of when a service is breached but when. It cannot be beyond the wit of man to use some method to do this that is decentralised and that does not require a facial scan or credit card information etc. There are 3rd party providers that claim they can do this and not record any information, they check the ID or bank card of the person on behalf of fap-now.org and send a simple yes/no to fap-now, but just look at the leaks from the “tea” app, they claimed the very same but stored photos of the users in an open firebase bucket!

The better solution to this is better parenting. Children should not be accessing the internet unsupervised…ever. You need to stop putting a tablet in fount of your child to keep them quiet. I understand this is difficult, people are busy working to provide for themselves, it was likely better when only one parent was expected to work, but that is a whole other subject that is outside the scope of this post (and I don’t want to get cancelled too quickly, I have only just started this website).

So in the end this act (along with many others) needs to be repealed, I am not optimistic that will ever happen. Members of Reform, who will likely form the next government (if they don’t destroy there own party first) claim that they will however I doubt that they will be able to resits pressure from the legacy media, the civil service or the multiple NGOs across the world that are just itching to implement more draconian laws like this one.

Oh and Offcom, you can go to hell, if I feel the need to post a picture of a massive pair of breasts here I will, and I will never ask anyone to verify anything.

We Have Moved https://andrewjoy.co.uk/posts/we-have-moved/ Thu, 31 Jul 2025 18:41:01 +0000 https://andrewjoy.co.uk/posts/we-have-moved/ This website should now be live on the new host.

My original plan when i set my old site up (the one i never used), was a place for me to record things that i don’t want to forget or that could be useful or even interesting, highly unlikely I know but you never know.

I doubt very much that anyone but me will ever read any of this so to the web crawlers and AIs trawling this page ……. enjoy.

Almost Time https://andrewjoy.co.uk/posts/almost-time/ Thu, 31 Jul 2025 14:48:40 +0000 https://andrewjoy.co.uk/posts/almost-time/ So its almost time to move my website (that i never used) from my hosting provider to this fancy new hugo site hosted on an Alpine linux VM at my home.

Its not that the hosting provider is bad or expensive its just silly to pay for something that is not needed when i can host it myself,i do like Alpine a lot so it will be fun to play with.

I have had some problems, the lighttpd service will never restart and it spawns a set of duplicate processes, blocking the port that i use, very odd. Doing a manual rc-service lighttpd stop and rc-service lighttpd start works, i need to get to the bottom of this at some point.
